Well, it has been a little while since I have posted anything. I have given you some glimpses into our summer life and some of the things going on around the campground. Now that winter has settled into the midwest, Sally and I have officially become “SNOWBIRDS” and have taken up some Winter Quarters down in the “Land of Sunshine, Oranges, Old People and Lost Turn Signals”.
We spent very little time at home between our summer job and heading south. Our original plan was to look over some properties and decide whether to purchase or rent and then head back home to Iowa and spend Thanksgiving with our family up there and then drive back and spend our winter basking in the warmth of Mid-Florida. Well, that didn’t happen, we were fortunate to have found something very reasonable but unfortunately it needed a massive overall cleaning and some updating. We have spent a great deal of time doing both. So much had to be done that we decided to NOT go back to Iowa but to stay and get busy with the chore at hand .
Now, when your plans change as they did with us…..there were several items on a list that DID NOT get well thought through…..such as…….clothing….when we left for Florida, the temps were a little higher…hense, we brought very little winter clothing. Even in Florida the temperatures have a tendency to dip down from time to time and if aren’t prepared….Brrrrrrr.
When you move into a place that needs to be thoroughly cleaned and you have everything you need…..back in Iowa…..you make a trip to the store for supplies.
When you find something that need to be repaired…….you have every tool you need (and many of them in duplicate) BACK IN IOWA….another trip to the store.
We have been here since the October 26th, we took possession of our little “Shangri La” within a couple of days of our arrival and have been working on it since then and it is coming together nicely.
I have taken some photos and with luck you will be able to see them here. These photos show some of the work we did, what is hard to see is the amount of cleaning that had to be done. Of course a fresh layer of paint did wonders for freshening thing up. Sally literally scrubbed the kitchen floor 4 or 5 times with a stiff brush and it finally paid off. The bedroom carpet was beyond cleaning so we replaced it with Laminate Flooring.
